Who Writes this Stuff Anyway?

Hi, there, my name is Todd…I’m a forty-something movie fan from the land where the air is thin, Denver, Colorado. Though I love watching movies from all different eras of film history, over the last several years I’ve become much more interested in the films of the past that many people don’t remember anymore. That’s the focus of the Forgotten Films blog.

As for my “normal” job, well, it’s not that normal. I’m a puppeteer! Yep, like the Muppets. It’s always been a lot of fun for me when someone just casually asks me what I do for a living. I mean it’s a common small-talk kind of question, but most people have never had that simple question answered with the word “puppeteer.”

When I visit blogs, I always like knowing a bit about the person who is doing the writing. So…allow me to give you just a brief glimpse into the strange world that is my mind.

Movies:
Obviously, I love movies. I love watching movies that have drifted from the radar, so to speak, but I don’t spend all my time watching “Forgotten” films. Among my favorite movies are: “The Empire Strikes Back,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Dr. Strangelove,” “Modern Times,” “Animal Crackers,” “Fantasia,” and “Raising Arizona.” I could keep going, but that’s a good sized list already.

TV:
I don’t spend as much time on TV shows, since I’d usually rather be watching a movie. But, let it be shouted from the mountaintops…”The Muppet Show” is the greatest program in the history of television! “The Simpsons” comes in a close second, though it makes me feel old knowing that thing was on when I was in college and I haven’t been in college for a looooooong time. Other favorites include “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” “24,” “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” and a current fave “Phineas & Ferb.”

Music:
I like all sort of music, but the progressive rock genre has long been at the top of my list. So my favorite band is Genesis! Both the Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins eras…they’re great! I’ve been finding a new appreciation for Rush lately and I love the bizarre creativity of Frank Zappa. Other favorites include The Beatles, They Might Be Giants, Talking Heads, and Buckwheat Zydeco

Sports:
I’m not real big into sports…that is, except for baseball. It’s the greatest game ever created…don’t even try to argue against it! I love that the game is so simple yet so complex. I love that it’s a game of skill and that no matter how late in the game it is, no matter how far behind you are, you still have a chance to win! My teams are my original hometown team, The Chicago Cubs, and my current hometown team, The Colorado Rockies. I really don’t like football much at all. My wife tells me that she first took an interest in me when we were in college and she saw me on campus doing my laundry on Super Bowl Sunday. So my disinterest in football has worked out pretty well for me so far.

Thanks again for visiting “Forgotten Films.” I hope that through the blog you discover, or rediscover, some of our vast movie history!

  1. Just discovered your blog today. Great stuff! I’ve wasted several hours of my day on it this far! When I saw your handle as TheSquonk, my first thought was, “I wonder if this guy is a Genesis fan?” Good to meet a fellow prog fan who also knows his movies! Wish I could post a photo as I’d show you the pic I had made a couple weeks ago with Steve Hackett from the Atlanta leg of his most recent tour. Have a great day and keep up the fine entertainment!

  2. Great blog, I discovered it a few days ago. I watch forgotten films pretty much every day. Well…I guess 90% of films out there can be tagged “forgotten”, as it’s only the 10%…the classics… that get mentioned all the time.

If you need recommendations (probably not), let me/us know.

    Cheers

  3. Hi!

Thank you for this introductory post. It is always nice to know more on who is writing the articles. It brings a personal touch. I am looking forward to read your reviews! 🙂

  4. So glad more folks are discovering your super-engaging blog. Better bookmark this baby, ya’ll!
Glad to meet another enterprising Genesis fan on the innernutz as well. Rock had its run but it was fun.
